After one of the best years for television and streaming, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced its nominations for the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards. History was made when three women—Emerald Fennell, Regina King, and Chloe Zhao—were nominated in the Best Director category alongside David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin. The shift towards digital platforms, as theatres have remained closed during the pandemic, helped Netflix dominate the competition with a staggering 42 nominations, with The Trial of the Chicago 7, Queen’s Gambit and The Crown being critically acclaimed. Amazon Studios bagged ten nominations, including a nod for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, while Hulu picked up ten as well, including nominations for the comedy show Ramy and film Palm Springs.
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey will host the event on 28 February. Check out the nominations in the comedy category below.
