The nominations for the 75th Annual Emmy Awards were announced yesterday during a YouTube stream. HBO dominated this year’s nominations with their shows Succession, The Last of Us and The White Lotus bagging the most nominationsโ27, 24 and 23 respectively. The television network bagged all eight slots in the Supporting Actor in a Drama category on the back of Succession and The White Lotus and scored six spots in the Supporting Actress category.
Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso earned 21 nods, making it the biggest show in the comedy category. This marks the most number of nominations for the show after last year’s 20, and just one shy of the record held by 30 Rock which earned 22 nominations in 2009. ABC’s Abbott Elementary landed 8 nominations while NBC’s Saturday Night Live got 9, a lower-than-usual number for the iconic sketch series. Ted Lasso, Abbott Elementary, Barry, Only Murders In The Building and Marvelous Mrs Maisel will battle it out with newcomers The Bear, Jury Duty and Wednesday.
Chris Rock’s Selective Outrage earned a nomination in the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category while John Mulaney’s Baby J, Wanda Sykes’ I’m An Entertainer and Trevor Noah’s I Wish You Would are in the running to win the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) category.
