It’s been a week since we dropped our first Podcast Playlist where we highlight our favourite listens of the week. So it goes without saying that roughly 5736 more have dropped in the last seven days. But you don’t have to sift through all that for a worthwhile episode. We’ve got you covered.
At the top of this week’s list is Whitney Cummings’ chat with LA comedian Matt Rifeโfresh off of a comedy special highโon her show Good For You Podcast. Elsewhere, Glenn Howerton answers three loaded questions on Andy Richter’s podcast and The Internet Said So gang is relaxing vicariously by discussing massages. Finally, James Acaster and Ed Gamble have an emotionally charged conversation about their favourite foods and Cyrus Broacha teams up with Punit Pania to talk about Indian politics and current affairs.
Good For You with Whitney Cummings – Matt Rife
Whitney Cummings has been a part of the American standup scene for nearly two decades. So, it would come as a shock to you that the comedian’s successful podcast Good For You is her first one and only started in late 2019. Especially since every other comic already has at least seven defunct ones nowadays.
In episode 189 of Good For You, Cummings is joined by LA comedian Matt Rife. Before discussing Rifeโs second comedy special Matthew Steven Rifeโwhich dropped on YouTube in Aprilโthereโs a little sex ed lesson. Rife and Cummings riff about pregnancy tests before getting to the meaty middle that includes an in-depth analysis of red flags and living life on the road. The conversation gets real as they open up about their battle with insomnia.
The Three Questions with Andy Richter – Glenn Howerton
Conan O’Brien’s late-night shadow Andy Richter decided to fly solo in 2019 with his podcast The Three Questions. The premise is simple. He is joined by a guest and is looking for the answers to these three questionsโWhere do you come from? Where are you going? What have you learned?
Last weekโs episode is a deep-dive into the life of Itโs Always Sunny In Philadelphia writer and actor Glenn Howerton. With 16 seasons worth of experience in the sitcom game, Howerton has a lot of stories to share and advice to give out to budding writers and actors in this taut 60-minute episode.
The Internet Said So – Massages
Aadar Malik, Kautuk Srivastava, Neville Shah and Varun Thakurโs podcast The Internet Said So has undergone more format changes than a client brief on a Friday evening. Despite all these tweaks, the one thing that has remained unchanged is their consistency. The four comedians have become fan favourites over the years, topping almost every Indian comedy podcast list and winning the prestigious DeadAnt Comedy Award for Best Podcast TWICE.
We all know standup comedy is hard work. And whatโs the best way to unwind after any tiring job? Thatโs right. A massage. What-a-wow Seguejit Ray (if you know, youโre a TISS superfan). The hourlong freewheeling episode features a Bhai story (duh), their most memorable massages and a sprinkling of random facts.
Off The Menu with James Acaster and Ed Gamble – Helen Bauer
Owning a restaurant is a dream many people hold on to. Their reasons might be different. I for example, just want to own an establishment where I donโt have to pay for food. Others might have more responsible motivators such as putting together a successful business or whatevs. Comedians James Acaster and Ed Gamble have been discussing their โdream restaurantโ menu since 2018 on their podcast Off The Menu.
In this one guests come in and start rattling off their favourite starter, main course, side dish, dessert and drink. Itโs all really fun until someone mentions a salad or a protein shake. Acaster canโt handle that, it’s meltdown time. Last week the duo were joined by Helen Bauer. Sheโs taken her dream menu so seriously, she tried some of it before meeting up with the boys.
Cock & Bull with Cyrus Broacha – Punit Pania
In addition to the weekly episode of Cyrus Says, Broacha also makes use of the YouTube livestream feature (can you believe heโs a Boomer?) with his show Cock & Bull. Believe it or not, guests come on the show and actually get a chance to speak despite Broacha being at the helm.
This weekโs episode featured โIndiaโs leading political commentatorโ Punit Pania and nobody else. Nobody else because Aakash Mehta was supposed to make it but couldnโt. Why? Broacha and Pania have some wild theories precisely about this. The two are also keeping up with current affairs, discussing alcohol served in corporate offices in Haryana, Sachin Tendulkarโs FIR and a YouTuber who crashed his plane for views.
