To Wed Or Not To Wed?: Mohammed Hussain On His Upcoming Tour & Standup Show ‘Shaadi Shud I?’

By DA Staff 27 April 2024 3 mins read

Mohammed Hussain takes a look at the institution of marriage in his solo show 'Shadi Shud I?' Here's everything you need to know about the show.

Spread the love

Four years into his marriage, comedian Mohammed Hussain thought to himself, “there isn’t enough friction in this relationship” and went on tour with his solo show Shaadi Shud I? in 2023. Well, that might not be true, but the comedian does take a look at the institution of marriage and wonders if it’s at all necessary in the show. Dubbed as an “arranged marriage story”, Hussain draws from his own lived experiences and waxes poetic about love and relationships all while dishing out eye-roll-worthy puns and some PG-13 jokes in the hour-long special. The comedian is all set to jet off on a fresh leg of the tour in June, hitting up a lot more cities and bigger venues than he did last year. If you’re looking to take your relationship to the next level, this is the show you have to catch. Why? We’ll let Hussain tell you all about it.

Quick! What’s this show about?

The show is majorly relationships and marriage with some insights into my own my marriage. I also talk about loneliness and trying to make money. All of that along with some unnecessary puns and sex jokes that I just enjoy doing.

How many shows are you doing, across how many cities?

I am currently planning on doing 15 shows across 12 cities.

How long did you spend writing the show?

I was sort of always building up to this constantly. Every bit that I wrote that wasn’t about relationships or related to my personal journey in my early 20s, I have released or stop doing. So this special has one joke that I did in my third ever open mic too!

Do you have any plans of recording and releasing this material online?

I have just started thinking about this. Maybe I’ll do one more round of shows in December and then plan a release. On this tour I will do some new material as well to hopefully build my next one-hour set.

Why should we watch it live?

Because the online version will not have some jokes that I’m too scared to put out there because they’re too vulgar (my mom and dad watch everything I post) or a lawyer has/will advise against it! Plus I’m not sure if some of the emotional aspects of the show will translate too well online.

According to you, who would be the ideal plus-one to bring to the live show?

If you are trying to convert a situationship into a relationship or a relationship to a wedding this show could help. Just saying. Basically I’m here to convert people. Hehehe.

Why are you calling the show ‘Shaadi Shudi I’?

Because throughout the show I try to figure out whether marriage has a point, and why you should or shouldn’t do it. Also, it’s a dumb pun. Shaadi-shuda… shud I?

On a scale of 1 – WTFAMIDOING, how nervous are you?

I’m always WTFAMIDOING about everything so that’s not different.

How many times did you and Mariyam get into an argument over a joke in this hour?

Actually never! She understands not to take the things I say seriously and I’m too self-obsessed to talk about her in the show. I’m mostly just talking about myself. The parts where she is mentioned, are all pretty factual. *laughs*

Which city are you most excited to perform in?

The city I most love performing in is difficult to say. I’m doing Chennai for the first time! Bengaluru has the best crowd and Delhi is super tough so that is enjoyable in itself. Also, because I’m very bilingual my show is 80 percent Hindi and 20 percent English in Delhi but vice versa in Bengaluru. So I do really enjoy that as well.
