Jon Stewart announced the upcoming release of his long-awaited series on Apple TV with an outlandishly phallic three minute video lampooning the ongoing billionaire space race. The teaser trailer for his upcoming show The Problem with Jon Stewart takes the form of an extended movie trailer for a mockumentary about space billionaires, featuring Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos (Jason Alexander), Elon Musk (Adam Pally), and Richard Branson (a mop).
The comedy skit also features Tracy Morgan as Bezosโ โdiverse friendโ and a stray cat cameo as Mark Zuckerberg. As timely and on point as it is, the video does raise some questions about Stewartโs upcoming Apple TV+ show, which hits the internet this September. Apple announced in April that the show would be a โa multiple season, one-hour, single-issue seriesโ, with a podcast accompanying each season. Itโs unclear how comedy skits fit into that format.
Regardless, โCum Dog Billionairesโ has got us excited about Stewartโs return to the talk-show format since he stepped down from The Daily Show in 2015 after 16 incredibly successful years. It can be argued that much of the credit for the current glut of satirical news shows goes to Stewart, with Stephen Colbert, Samantha Bee and John Oliver all being alumni of The Daily Show. With the current state of the world, weโd all appreciate a fresh dose of Jon Stewartโs commentary.
PS: If you needed a reminder of how sharp and incisive Stewart and his team can be, it turns out Bezos actually wore a similar hat for the launch as the one used in the teaser video, shot weeks earlier.
